Sedum Winter Joy

Sedum Winter Joy

Sedum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae, members of which are commonly known as stonecrops.

Perennials, they die back in winter. Most gardeners prune the herbaceous, succulent stalks to the ground, which will not harm the new growth come spring.

However, if left alone, sedums can add interest and beauty to the winter garden, with their dry stalks and spent flowers even offering food for the birds. And they certainly stand out when surrounded by snow.

We are told that the name sedum is in the process of being changed. The name of the pictured sedums is ‘Autumn Joy’.

But for now, how about ‘Winter Joy’?
