One of the advantages of being a member of the press is that on occasion, we are offered copies of new books to review. The variety is amazing and yours truly has enjoyed reading many of them.
Some, such as “Mastering the Art of Vegetable Gardening” by Matt Mattus, have in fact become reference books, to which I often return — not just for the information, but also to enjoy the many incredible and unique color photographs.
So, it was especially exciting to receive information about Mr. Mattus’ new book, “Mastering the Art of Flower Gardening,” which is scheduled to be published next month.
As I was with the vegetable book, I’m intrigued by the accompanying press information for this new book:
“Mastering the Art of Flower Gardening” is a comprehensive and highly practical study of the art of growing flowers, presenting expert tips on growing annuals and perennials (including native and heirloom species).
“Gorgeously illustrated, with hundreds of lush photographs, Mattus sets you up for success by providing everything you need to know about starting seeds, soil, sowing, hardening off, to transplanting and growing on.
“It’s all based on Mattus’ decades of first-hand experience — every variety or species presented is one that he has personally trialed and grown. There [are] tips for growing over 100 different annuals from seed and many summer bulbs, vines like wisteria and even blooming shrubs like lilacs. Every flower includes detailed information based on his hands-on experience, going beyond the information typically available on the seed packet or a nursery tag.
“In short, there is nothing ordinary about “Mastering the Art of Flower Gardening” — it is unlike any other cut flower book you will find.”
I can’t wait to start reading it when it arrives!
