Connecticut-based Colorblends is a flower bulb wholesaler that sells directly to landscape professionals and home gardeners. We were very interested when we recently received information about their latest offerings for fall planting.

Included were photos and descriptions of six new tulip blends, three new daffodil varieties and two new amaryllis. We were particularly impressed by the tulip blend of ‘Apples to Oranges’ with its fire engine red and pumpkin-orange tulips.

According to Colorblends horticulturist Christian Curless, “The more subdued shade of orange is unexpected with brilliant red, yet the combination hits exactly the right note.” With an ultimate height of 12-14 inches, we are told that their bloom time would be early-to-mid spring.

Other fascinating new trademarked names, along with great photos, included: “Beaujolais,” “Bunny Hop,” “Diamond Touch,” “Riesling,” and “Twister.”

In fact, there was much information to be learned including the general planting and care of spring flowering bulbs, forcing bulbs, moving and dividing bulbs, and much more. Visit their website, www.colorblends.com, when you get a free moment.

Enjoy!
